(Scripture)
Luke 22:15 (NLT) Jesus said, “I have looked forward to this hour with deep longing, anxious to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.”
(Observations)
Passover was a time to celebrate Israel’s escape from Egypt, end of oppression, and fulfillment of God’s promise. Jesus too was a promise from God. He was the deliverer of the world’s oppression from sin. Like the first Passover, once again the blood of the lamb was spilled so that we would not die.
Knowing the torturous road ahead of Him, He still fervently longed to spend time with those He loved. His time with His disciples, like us, was all that mattered in His last hour.
(Application)
Currently so many are facing a potentially torturous road and having difficulty focusing on His promise. Jesus’ road was certainly more treacherous than mine. Jesus knew His fate and still longed to spend time with His disciples. He didn’t worry about His known fate. My fears are mostly in my mind right now. Putting on the full armor of God, also means His helmet too.
Years ago I agreed to be His disciple and get out of the boat and walk on water with Him. Like the tight rope artist who asked for a volunteer to get into the wheelbarrow and go across the falls, right now I am in that wheelbarrow. Several weeks ago, God lead me to a video that only now I fully understand why.
Jesus loves me so much. I long to spend time with Him too. He spends time with me in prayer, when I listen to Christian songs that fill my heart, when I study His word, and especially now while I write this SOAP. I am learning that while in the wheelbarrow, it is best not to look down…it is best to look up at the Master.
(Prayer)
Loving Father. Lead me to those who I need and to those who need you in me. You promised to always be with me on the shore or in the wheelbarrow. Take the cup from me and move the mountain. Not my will, but thine be done. Do with me what you want, I am yours. In your name I pray, Amen.
